Summer is finally here.  I have enjoyed being your teacher this year and serving as the SIGNET teacher at Benton for the last 20 years, but now I am retiring.  I am so sorry that I was not able to say goodbye to you in person, but I hope you will keep Mrs. Morse informed of all that you are doing when you come back to Benton to visit.

Keep learning!  Stay curious.

Instructional Block 5-11-2020
GAMESTAR MECHANIC CONTEST
How to enter:
  1.  Complete the Energy Challenge.   You can find it in your Workshop Under Challenges.  Even though the challenge is closed, you can still play the missions and earn the Energy Sprites!
  2. Design a game of your own. It MUST include some energy sprites that you earned from the challenge.
  3. Your game MUST be balanced--not so hard that beginning level players can't beat it, but not so easy that more experienced players will be bored.
  4. You need to edit all of the messages and use proper grammar and spelling.
  5. After you publish your game, email the "share game' link to Mrs. Morse (morserj@pwcs.edu).  Games are due at next week's instructional block Monday, May 18th.
  6. Mrs. Morse will put the games together into a contest where everyone can play them and vote on their favorite.
  7. Voting will take place the week May 18th and the winner will be announced during SIGNET Office Hours on Friday, May 22
If you need help or advice, contact Mrs. Morse through TEAMS or email this week, or during office hours on Friday May 15.
If you did not do the Gamestar Mechanic Unit and you would like to join the challenge or just learn to design video games, email Mrs. Morse and she will help you get started.

May 4, 2020 Challenge

Calling all History Buffs and Theater Geeks!!
Lin Manuel-Miranda, creator of the musical Hamilton, has designed a program that is free to all students and teachers during Covid-19.  Once you register, you are greeted in a video by Lin-Manuel Miranda and encouraged to follow in his footsteps to research an event in the founding of our country that is of particular interest to you using primary source documents that are available through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.  You will then write a song, rap, spoken-word poem, or scene to creatively express what you have learned.  You can video tape your work and send it to Lin-Manel Miranda where he will choose ten videos to highlight on social media each week.

Look at the links below for more details and to register.  You may have to join the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History website first to get to the EduHam at Home link.  Once you register at the EduHam at Home, you will be sent at email with your username and password and a one-time link where you will need to immediately change your password. After that you can just login through the original site.

Please feel free to contact me if you need help deciding on a topic, researching the topic, or writing your creative masterpiece.  Also, I would be glad to give you feedback on anything that you write, and I would love to see your video before you send it off.

Enjoy the project!

Hello SIGNET Friends,
Wow!  We had 64 students at our 1st class Zoom Class Meeting.  It was fun to see and hear from all of you, and we hope you enjoyed connecting with your SIGNET friends.  Don't forget to be thinking of a pun, Dad joke, or corny riddle to share at our next class meeting that will take place after Spring Break.  We will let you know when that will be.

Enjoyed seeing you today!

Hello SIGNET Friends,
It's a new week and we are trying new things! Our attempt to post a puzzle was thwarted by a 200 student limit on the Assignment part of Teams, but we are working to figure that out so that all of  330+ students can participate.  Stay tuned for this after Spring Break!

Hello SIGNET Students,
I am so sad that Governor Northam has canceled school for all of Virginia through the end of the academic year.  This means I will not be able to see you any more, nor will I be able to say good bye to you.

To my 8th grade students in particular, I am sorry that we will not be able to publish Roars and Whispers literary arts magazine this year.  I am also sad that I will not be able to say goodbye to you before you transition to high school.  I hope you will come back to visit us at Benton once all of this clears.

Please look below for how we plan to stay connected.  We can get through this if we stay calm and positive.

Remember to get some exercise and to find a reason to laugh often!

Missing you,
Mrs. Boisvert

Hello SIGNET Students,
How are you doing?  I miss you! My family and I are well, and I hope the same for you and yours.  I know that social distancing is hard....and so boring!  Mrs. Morse and I are working on a plan to send you some challenges to work on and possibly solve together.

Please check your Office 365 for an email that invites you to join a new Team entitled BTMS SIGNET. (The icon image is a brain! It's fitting, right?) This will be a huge group because it is for ALL of our students. (Yes, 1st and 2nd quarter students that we have already seen for the year, this means you!  Yes, to our 3rd quarter students that we are missing right now, this means you! And especially to our 4th quarter students who we have not met yet, we really mean you as well!)

Remember to be kind, stay inside, and wash your hands!  :-)

Missing you tons!
Mrs. Boisvert
