Benton Cougar Chorus Members,

I hope you are all doing alright during this challenging and strange time.  I was very happy with the work that you were doing prior to our classes getting cancelled and our schools closing.  Don't worry - we will have concerts next year and we will still be able to make music together soon!

In the meantime, Mrs. Blair and I are working to get some fun listening things and virtual work for you to do at home.  We will be adding more files to assist in optional learning opportunities and resources for students.  These will be available under the "files and documents" tab.  More to come!   We have also sent you an email regarding an opportunity to keep your music skills up!

Parents and students should have received an email from me last week about an optional tool that you can use to keep practicing your sight reading skills.  If you didn't get that email, please use this link to read how to signup
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DHhsem3zqDNu5FWQ7Zq-LWwhJqV5jjE--6MgHY6-Ktw/edit?usp=sharing

If you did get the email and you signed up, you may have noticed that I posted an "assignment" for fun.  Some of you did that and it was great - I have "graded" them and sent you comments on your work!

Be safe, amigos! No go wash your hands!  We love you!

 Mr. Fitch and Mrs. Blair

Singing Check Re-test

If a student wishes to raise their grade of a singing-check, they may do so on Thursday or Friday mornings before school anytime from 8:00-8:20AM.  Students should check in with their homeroom teacher and come to the chorus room.

Dress Rehearsal Make-Up Assignment
Dress rehearsals are an important step in the full concert process and are crucial for the students to understand and literally go through the motions for performance. Dress rehearsals will be held in class typically.  Students must wear their entire chorus/chimes uniform on these days to receive credit.

If a student has missed their dress rehearsal, they will have received a failing test grade. In order to receive partial (80%) credit for missing the dress rehearsal, students must type a 1 page paper on the definition and importance of a dress rehearsal. This is due Friday, January 11.  More information or helpful research can be found on the following websites.

Concert Make-Up Assignment

Performance is one of the highlights for anyone who studies music.  Sharing your work with others is an important step of the process to becoming a confident and well-rounded musician and adult.  The benefits of live musical performance are rich and numerous. If a student was not present for our winter concert, they have received 4 failing summative grades as indicated in the grade book.

A student can complete a make-up mini-concert in order to receive partial (80%) credit for the missed performance. Make-up Mini Concerts will be held after school for any chorus student.  Consult the music calendar for these dates.   Students should come prepared to sing each piece memorized from the concert.  In addition, students must wear the proper concert uniform and stay for the entire time.  If you have any questions, please email Mr. Fitch.  Parents are more than welcome to attend and be in the audience.
