Mrs. Devers, School Social Worker

Welcome Back Cougars!

My name is Mrs. Devers, and I am so excited to begin my 13th year as Benton's School Social Worker. Throughout my time at BMS, I have met and formed relationships with many wonderful students and their families. I look forward to meeting many more wonderful students this year. I have a wealth of knowledge in community resources and can assist parents in this area. I support students in many ways, including individual and group counseling. One of my passions is addressing student mental health needs to include the very important program, Signs of Suicide.  I am also the co-sponsor of Benton’s Sources of Strength Peer Leader Program.

A little about me, I am a Northern Virginia native, growing up in Fairfax County along the very diverse Route 1 corridor near George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate. After high school, I attended George Mason University (1996-2000), where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a Minor in Social Work. From there, I began working as a Social Worker in the field of child welfare in both private and public settings. I attended Virginia Commonwealth University (2005-2008) earning a master’s degree in social work. I am a National Certified School Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My husband and I are residents of Prince William County and are proud parents to a 12 year old daughter and 10 year old son.

WHAT DO SOCIAL WORKERS DO?

  • School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals who can assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic, and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators as well as provide individual and group counseling/therapy.
  • School social workers are instrumental in furthering the mission of the schools which is to provide a setting for teaching, learning, and for the attainment of competence and confidence.
  • School social workers are hired by school districts to enhance the district's ability to meet its academic mission, especially where home, school and community collaboration is the key to achieving student success.
