K–12 EL Programs

PWCS provides a program of language instruction at each K-12 school in supportive settings so that ELs attain proficiency in English and meet the same challenging academic content and student achievement standards as other students. Components of instruction include:

  • Academic language instruction to students at English Language Proficiency (ELP) levels 1–5 for success in language arts, math, social studies, and science;
  • Delivery styles to maximize service opportunities: Co-taught, push-in, pull-out, inclusion, and EL-Only class; and
  • Support from ESL-certified teachers and content teachers knowledgeable in techniques which support English language development (ELD).

Translation Services

Translation Services

PWCS offers free language assistance to parents. We provide access to professional interpreters, to help our families understand important information about their child’s education. We also provide translations of many of our important documents and information.

How can families get language assistance?

In person— when visiting your child’s school or one of our central registration sites, you can ask for an interpreter that speaks your language. You can also point to your language using one of our language assistance posters. Our staff will immediately have an interpreter on the phone to help you. Face-to-face interpreters, for most languages, can also be obtained with prior notice.

Over the phone— call one of our bilingual translators if you have any questions about how to get translation or interpretation services: Spanish 571-374-6813, Urdu 703-791-7326, Arabic 703-791-7338, Vietnamese 703-791-7202, and Korean 703-791-8394. For all other languages please call 703-791-7568.

Online— many of our documents and information are available in Spanish, Urdu, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Korean. Select a category from the menu on the left to see what is available. You can also use the “Google Translate” option to see a translation of our Website. Computerized translations are often imperfect, but can help familiarize you with information not yet translated by the School Division.
