Congratulations to the following students who were selected for the 2016-2017 Benton Robotics Team. Thank you to all that applied, this was an incredibly difficult decision as the caliber of this year's applicants was truly remarkable. Unfortunately previous robotics team or summer camp experience does not guarantee a spot as we have far more applicants that we can accommodate.

Practice begins on Wednesday from 3-5pm in the Lecture Hall. It is highly recommended you bring a snack for afterschool.
Welcome to the 2016-2017 Robotics Team
The Benton Robotics team is a very popular competition based extracurricular activity. Students will work in small teams to design, build and program a robot using the VEX Robotics platform to compete in tournaments against other middle and high school teams. Robotics is a sport for the mind; it blends applied physics, mathematics, programming, prototyping and design, integrated problem solving, teamwork and leadership. Students who are successful in robotics must work well under pressure and work well with others.
Students may apply to the Robotics Team only at the beginning of the school year. As with any team, space is extremely limited and highly competitive. It is my deep regret that I cannot accommodate all the students who wish to participate in Robotics. Robotics is a major commitment, students are expected to attend every practice. The season will run from October through January. Teams qualifying for the State Championships will continue through February. If a team qualifies for the World Championships, their season will extended until the end of April.
Applications for the 2016-2017 team are due by 3pm on Wednesday, September 28 to the Benton Front Office.
Tryouts will be held on Friday September 30 from 3-5pm in the Lecture Hall. You must turn in an application to attend tryouts. Tryouts will consist of a quiz on the Starstruck game rules and various teamwork challenges. No prior robotics or programming experience is required.
Practices will be held on Wednesday and Friday from 3-5pm for those selected for this year's team in the Lecture Hall. The first practice will begin on Wednesday, October 5th.
Students need to ask for one teacher/coach recommendation, either from the previous Robotics coach if they were on a team in the past or from a Math, Science, Tech Ed or SIGNET teacher.
The challenge this year is Starstruck, view the game video at: https://youtu.be/0t2zstQ84Tw
