 LIBRARY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS):

How can I get books online?

The Benton library has access to a small collection on eBooks through Destiny. You may find them in the catalog by visiting the library canvas page or the Benton Website.

Sora is also available to use for access to online books. This can be found in Clever.

Finally, the public library has a great collection of digital resources. If you do not hold a current public library card, please see the librarians and we will be happy to give you an application. Once you fill out the application, return to us and we will get your library card for the public library.

When is the library open?

We are open 8am-2:50 pm every school day.

Virtual resources such as databases, the library catalog, the library Canvas course, and external sites that offer free E-books are available 24/7.

When can I come to the library without a pass?

The library is open to all students from 8:00 am – 8:15 am. No pass is necessary during this timeframe. Students who visit during this time may participate in boardgames, a quick study session, social time, relaxation before classes, and of course book checkout/returns/renewals.

We ask that students who do utilize the library in the mornings, please clean up after yourselves, return any chairs to their proper locations, and be respectful to all library patrons and staff.

When can I come to the library with an E-Hall pass?

You can come anytime during the school day with an E-Hall pass from your teacher or with a library pass from a cafeteria monitor during lunch (after you have eaten). Please remember to keep an eye on the clock so that you aren't late for your next class!

Can I come to the library after school?

At this time the library is not available after school. If we develop a high interest, we can revisit the opportunity for students to stay. Please check with the librarians for updates.

How many books may I check out?

You may take out up to 3 books or 2 books and 1 Playaway. *Only 1 Playaway may be checked out on your account at a time.

How long may I keep materials?

Materials are due 2 weeks after you've checked them out. However, if you aren't finished with them, you may renew them for 2 more weeks, if they are not on hold for someone else.

What happens if I lose a book?

If you lose a book, you will need to pay for the cost of the book. Books can be paid by exact cash (we cannot give out change) or check, made payable to Benton Middle School.

What happens if return a damaged book?

All library books are inspected upon return from all patrons and reshelved if circulation if no damage is detected. This is to ensure no student checks out a book in poor condition. If a book becomes damaged while in your possession, you will need to pay for the cost of a new book. The other option is to find a replacement copy of the book and give that copy to the library to replace the damaged book.

What if another student has checked out a book that I would like to read?

You may put as many books on hold as you wish. Just tell us which book(s) you'd like to put on hold, and we'll put you on the wait list. As soon as the book is available, you will receive an email. You have 3 days to come to the library to get your book before we move to the next person on the wait list.

May I eat, drink or chew gum in the library?    No.

Water is permitted if it is in a container with a lid.

May I use my phone in the library?

No. Benton has a no cellphone policy in place between 8am and 3pm. You should not have your phone. If you need to make a call home, please go to the front office.
